When I started at the Post, Ben Bradlee was still boss but Len Downie ran the daily story meetings in a self-assured manner that was a wonder to behold. He announced plans to step down on Monday; here's a clip of his remarks:

I'm the editor of Capital Business, a new weekly business publication from The Washington Post. I'm also the author of Columbia Talk, a random roundup of local news tidbits located at columbiatalk.blogspot.com. The material here is something I prepare in my free time and it is only tangentially related to my work for the newspaper, since I'm also experimenting with new media there. I'm a longtime Columbia resident. I moved to Wilde Lake in 1969, and I now reside in Oakland Mills.
